We have all been there (especially if you live in the PNW!) The weather is keeping you and your little ones inside and you are running out of things to do! This is the perfect time to enjoy some creative and meaningful indoor family activities, and I have a few great ideas for you! Whether you’re looking to entertain little ones, strengthen family bonds, or spread a little joy, these ideas will make staying in just as fun as going out. Here are our top three indoor family activities to try! (#2 is probably my favourite!)
We all know how much kids love to show their stuff, so what better way to turn that into something fun than having a family talent show! Turn your living room into a stage and give each family member a turn showing off their hidden talent. Whether it’s singing, dancing, magic, or telling jokes, a talent show is a fantastic way to encourage creativity and boost confidence. You can even make it more exciting by setting up a pretend microphone, dimming the lights for a dramatic entrance, or handing out homemade awards. This could even become a tradition where you could look at photos and videos from past talent shows!
Do you remember how exciting it was to receive an actual letter in the mail? In today’s digital world, receiving a handwritten letter or a heartfelt drawing in the mail is a such a special treat. Get out the paper, markers, stickers, and stamps, (and maybe even glitter!) and let your family create something beautiful. You could make things for grandparents, friends, or anyone who could use a smile. This indoor family activity not only sparks creativity but also teaches kindness and thoughtfulness. Also, once you’re done you get to take a trip to the mailbox together and send off your special surprises! This is sure to be the highlight of your little ones day! Who knows, they might even receive a piece of mail in return!
There is something so fun about a family baking something yummy together. Choose a favourite cookie, muffin, or bread recipe, (this is my favourite cookie recipe!) and let everyone pitch in—measuring, stirring, and decorating. Once your baked goods are ready, package them up and surprise a neighbour with a sweet homemade gift. This is one of the most rewarding indoor family activities, as it combines teamwork, learning, and the joy sharing it with others!
Staying indoors doesn’t have to be boring! With these fun and meaningful indoor family activities, you can turn any day at home into an opportunity for creativity, connection, and kindness. The best part about all of these indoor family activities is that you can enjoy them all year round! You can move any of them outside to soak up that sunshine anytime.
