There’s something truly magical about a golden hour maternity session by the ocean. The soft glow of the setting sun and the gentle waves create the perfect backdrop for celebrating the beauty of pregnancy. As a Vancouver maternity photographer I think that loving the beach is just in my blood! Recently, I had the joy of photographing this gorgeous mom to be (of twins!) at Mud Bay Park, and the results were nothing short of breathtaking. If you’re dreaming of a beach maternity session, let this serve as inspiration for your own beautiful memories.
Mud Bay Park is easily one of my favourite locations for golden hour sessions. With the sun setting behind the ocean, the last hour of daylight stretches on, creating a never-ending glow of warm, golden light. It’s hard to believe these photos were taken in January, but we were lucky to have a stretch of beautiful (though chilly) winter days—and we made the most of it! Golden hour is my favourite time to capture maternity photos because the soft, radiant light perfectly complements every glowing mom-to-be.
When it comes to maternity photography, I believe the best moments happen naturally. Rather than focusing on stiff poses, I guide my clients through soft and gentle movements and quiet moments in between poses, allowing their personalities to shine. This session was all about capturing authentic emotions—soft laughter, quiet anticipation, and the natural connection between mom-to-be and her growing babies. As a Vancouver maternity photographer, my goal is to create a stress-free experience where expecting parents can simply enjoy the moment while I document their story in a way that feels effortless and true to them.
Choosing the right outfit for a beach maternity session can make all the difference in creating a dreamy, effortless look. One beautiful option is to embrace the bare bump style—pairing jeans or a flowy skirt with a delicate bralette or swimsuit top. This look highlights your growing belly in a natural, timeless way while complementing the relaxed beach setting. Another beautiful option is a long flowy dress or skirt and top set (bonus points if it has a high slit for your leg to poke through!). If you’re unsure what to wear, I offer a curated client closet with a selection of dresses and outfit options to help you find something that makes you feel comfortable and radiant for your session. Being a Vancouver Maternity Photographer means I have a good idea of what outfits will work during the specific seasons and at all types of different locations! (I purchased the dress in these photos from Reclamation Design Company!)
If you’re dreaming of a golden hour maternity session, now is the perfect time to start planning! The months of May through September offer the most stunning sunset light, with warm, glowing skies that create a magical backdrop for your photos. I typically recommend scheduling your maternity session when you’re between 28 and 32 weeks along—this is when your baby bump is beautifully rounded, but you’re still comfortable enough to move and enjoy the experience. As a Vancouver maternity photographer, I’d love to help you capture this special chapter with a relaxed, heartfelt session. Reach out to book your spot—I can’t wait to document your journey!
