There’s something undeniably powerful about the first hours after welcoming a new baby into the world! The way your baby curls into you, the fuzzy shoulders, the tiny hospital bracelet, and the proud, sleepy smiles. These are the moments that pass by in a blink but deserve to be remembered forever. That’s why Fresh 48 Photography is one of my favourite sessions to capture!
Fresh 48 sessions are done within the first two days after birth. Typically, they are done at the hospital or at home if you’ve had a home birth or early discharge. I am going to get into why choose Fresh 48 Photography, and some tips for if you have an upcoming session with your photographer!
You’ll have hundreds of photos of your baby over the years, but only one chance to document their very first hours and days in the world! Fresh 48 photography offers an opportunity to capture your baby exactly as they are in those first moments: sleepy, squishy, wrinkled, and perfect.
Unlike posed studio newborn sessions, or even a lifestyle session in your home, Fresh 48 sessions are unfiltered and documentary style. They’re perfect for families who don’t want a full birth session but still want to remember what those first days felt like.
From their first yawns to the moment they wrap their tiny fingers around yours, these are the photos you’ll look back at and cherish for years to come.
Thinking about booking a fresh 48 photography session? Here’s how to make the most of it:
These sessions are time sensitive and depend on your birth date, so I recommend booking in your second trimester. That way, you’re guaranteed a spot in my calendar, and we can plan everything ahead of time!
Some hospitals have visitor restrictions. It’s important to check whether your chosen hospital (like Langley Memorial) allows a photographer to visit during your stay. If hospital access isn’t possible, we can always plan a Fresh 48 session at home after early discharge!
I stay on call around for the week before and after your due date, but I’ll need a quick heads up when labour starts or baby arrives! That helps me plan for the best time to come, which is usually within the first 24 to 48 hours.
A simple neutral swaddle, a cozy blanket, and a cute name plaque or letterboard can add personal touches. Parents often wear soft, neutral tones or comfy pyjamas. There is no need to get dressed up for these photos!
Messy hair, hospital gowns, sleepy eyes is all part of the story! The beauty of fresh 48 photography is that it embraces the realness. These moments won’t come again, and that’s what makes them so valuable.
Your baby will grow faster than you can imagine, but your photos will always take you back to the very beginning, and they are photos that you will truly treasure for years to come! Let’s make sure those first memories are preserved with honesty, warmth, and love. If you are ready to book your session, or want to chat more, you can inquire about a session with me here!
